new song from willie nelson

What Ever Happened To Peace On Earth

There’s so many things going on in the world
Babies dying
Mothers crying
How much oil is one human life worth
And what ever happened to peace on earth

We believe everything that they tell us
They’re gonna kill us
So we gotta kill them first
But I remember a commandment
Thou shall not kill
How much is that soldier’s life worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

So I guess it’s just
Do unto others before they do it to you
Let’s just kill em all and let God sort em out
Is this what God wants us to do

(Repeat Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

Now you probably won’t hear this on your radio
Probably not on your local TV
But if there’s a time, and if you’re ever so inclined
You can always hear it from me
How much is one picker’s word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

But don’t confuse caring for weakness
You can’t put that label on me
The truth is my weapon of mass protection
And I believe truth sets you free

(Bridge)
And the bewildered herd is still believing
Everything we’ve been told from our birth
Hell they won’t lie to me
Not on my own damn TV
But how much is a liars word worth
And whatever happened to peace on earth

New York City - Rep.

New York City - Rep.: Don’t Go To Times Square

Concerned about terrorism, U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays urged revelers Tuesday not to attend New Year’s Eve celebrations like the one at Times Square in New York City this year.A member of the House Select Committee on Homeland Security and chairman of a terrorism subcommittee, the Connecticut Republican told WVIT-TV that he wouldn’t go to Times Square “for anything.”

–The chairman of the terrorism subcommittee wouldn’t go to Times Square “for anything”? Yet Tom Ridge and Dubya still tell folks to go about your normal business on like nothing is happening? How can they put us into a state of fear and frenzy and then say “but don’t worry about”? God forbid we stop shopping and consuming during a threat of violence against us.

Some words better left unuttered

Posted by admin

Great commentary by Helen Thomas. One example:

On March 7, Secretary of State Colin Powell said: “Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised.”

Isn’t it time for Powell to recant?

next to of course god america i

Posted by admin

last night i squeezed into the savvis center with 22,000 others to watch the mizzou/illinois basketball game. what a sight it was. white former fratboys in all their post-college glory, cellphones and stacks of 24oz beer cups galore. screaming at coaches and players who could not hear them, spilling half of their 7th beer while bellowing. eddie bauer hipsters in black leather jackets (did a “everybody in black leather” commercial come out recently?), some with their tommy boy crews and some with their trophy gfriends or maybe even wives. and beads - and should anyone be allowed to wear beads except on the actual mardi gras day? i think not.

at one point, the announcer introduced 3 distinguished guests - john ashcroft, jim talent and kit bond. what’s was funny is there was a mixed reaction of a little applause and low rumbling of dissent. bond looked like he needed another cocktail, which apparently he is want to do. talent looked about as out of place as if the “queer eye” guys where there themselves. he was probably wondering when the 3rd period began…

a decent game too. mizzou almost came back from being down 21 points. maybe if mizzou had a coach, er i mean one who actually coached, they might have won. but quinn seems to prefer to let them run wild and watching illinois who has a “coach” and played as a team win didn’t seem so bad…

“next to of course god america i
love you land of the pilgrims’ and so forth oh
say can you see by the dawn’s early my
country ’tis of centuries come and go
and are no more what of it we should worry
in every language even deafanddumb
thy sons acclaim your glorious name by gorry
by jingo by gee by gosh by gum
why talk of beauty what could be more beaut-
iful than these heroic happy dead
who rushed like lions to the roaring slaughter
they did not stop to think they died instead
then shall the voice of liberty be mute?”

He spoke. And drank rapidly a glass of water”

imagine : lyrics : merry xmas (war is over)

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let’s hope it’s a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it

hardwood floor creakin’
bedroom door squeekin’
she’s standing in the kitchen
i thought she was still sleepin’

kiss her on the forehead
ask her how’d she sleep
she says “honey it’s so early,
we probably shouldn’t speak yet”

The Year in Music - Slate

Posted by admin

The Year in Music - Slate:
“I’m a man of simple beliefs. I believe in red borscht, white socks, and blue-ribbon beer. I believe the first side of the second Stooges album is better than the second side of the first Stooges album. I believe Pedro Martinez was the AL MVP in 1999. I believe Ehrlichman was Deep Throat. I believe in a thing called love. I believe Owen Wilson is to Ann Wilson as Luke Wilson is to Nancy Wilson. ” - Rob Sheffield in Slate

There are only two good things left about Rolling Stone Mag (and I’m not sure about these two since I cancelled my subscription some time ago): “Get Your War On” cartoons and Rob Sheffield commentaries.
